Kavros







Built on the edge of a cliff, Kavros is the most technologically innovative city-state. The thick woods of the High Forest have prevented easy railway access, and Sellenity has restricted access through their ports with bribery being the best ticket through. Despite this, Kavros has advanced their technology in ways unknown to the other territories. Their ports are accessed through a series of cranes and elevators alongside the cliff face. There are also rumors that the city has dug down and now extends to the ground beneath the cliff.

History

Kavros is the third oldest city-state.  Originally, it had no contact with other areas of Levianara because of the High Forest and steep cliff faces on either side.  Because of its isolation, Kavros has also been free of the conflict of the other territories.  

The Underside

What began as a drilling project for easier access to fresh water ended up contributing more to the city of Kavros than originally intended.  Along with an underground lake, the drilling project revealed a series of enormous caves full of precious metals and gems.  Over many years, these caves have been filled with construction projects, expanding Kavros into what some consider a second city called The Underside.

Ports

Kavros is known for its unique ports, which are located at the base of the many cliffs that surround the city-state's seaboard.  Because of the steep incline, the ports are not accessible on foot.  Many are accessed via elevators or wildly rickety staircases.  Goods are brought up to city level via cranes. While most ports are city owned, there are some private ports just outside city walls.  These are typically run by large trading companies or rich boating enthusiasts. Kavrosi ships are powered variably by either wind sail, hand paddles, or engine wheels.  Typically, larger trade ships will utilize both sail and wheel technology to maximize their efficiency.

The Tseth religion primarily follows the sun.  In fact, Tseth means "sun" in their ancient language.  The Tseth worship the sun for giving light and watching over them constantly.  They also believe exposure to the sun imbues both knowledge and beauty.   The idea that the sun gives knowledge traces back to before the Tseth had access to other forms of light.  The sun was the only light by which they could read their informative texts, and thus the sun allowed them to gain knowledge. The Durmari Alphabet

The Durmari alphabet is shared between Durmara and the Tseth nomads.  Developed within Durmara, it spread to the Tseth so that the nomadic cities could easier communicate.  This alphabet is used both in the Durmari and Tseth language, though the alphabet is shared, many words still differ.  The two groups have worked a way around this, by using single letters to signify basic communicative needs between the two.
