Knoverfen

Image
The Mysterious Figure Sailors that pass the island of the Bone Hills claim it is haunted by a lone figure pale as the hills, with antlers like a deer.  He is spotted along the shore looking over the water, longingly toward the mainland.  Rumors state that this figure is Knoverfen, the last immortal being of the island.  Sailors never venture onto the island in fear of being turned to bone by him.  He is blamed for being the creator of the carvers.  Supposedly he steals the hearts of innocent people and replaces them with bone, which morphs the victim into a human heart craving monster.   Origins Knoverfen is seen as a figure of decay, as he was the cause of the Death of the Hills, the event that turned the Living Hills into the Bone Hills and killed all of the Hills' inhabitants.  He effectively ended an era of peace and near immortality within the Living Hills when he managed to murder another man and bury him within the Hills.  Kno...

There Are Carvers in Crostrunn

Image
“For the last time, there are no carvers in Crostrunn,” The officer gave the reporter a stern glare; that would be her final warning.   Behind him, other officers worked away investigating the gruesome scene at the end of the railway station.  The many lines of police tape obscured some vision, but the reporter could still see enough to know the officer was lying.  Along with the lanky, pale figure that had been slain by the officers just moments ago, there was a crumpled, bloody mess of a man with his chest torn open.   Though she could not see into the man’s wound, the reporter knew what the officers did.  The man’s heart was gone.  That was the standard for carver attacks.  No matter how hard the city watch tried to cover it up, there was no denying there was a carver problem in Crostrunn.  Typically, carvers made their move at night.  They were smart enough to not get caught.  There was still some humanit...

The Librarians

There's nothing here yet.

The Library

Image
The Library is a massive tower West of the City of Hopeful Green.  It houses many magical artifacts, as well as all written history, literature, and non-fiction works.  The Library is under strict security, with next to no humans allowed in or out of the building.  The few exceptions include the official Library Trading Crew, Library Assistants, and Ravens' Watchers.  The Library is accessible via the Library Special Access Rail, which runs above the canopy of the Floral Forest.  The top of the Library is home to two giant sentient ravens known as  The Librarians , they are the overseers of the Library and all of its content.  They are paranoid that because of humans' relative stupidity, they would lose any items lent outside of the building.  It is because of this that there is restricted access.

The City-States

The High Forest

The High forest is located South East of Kavros, and is the main factor which limits the construction of the violet rail.  The trees of the High forest are so densely packed, passage in any method other than foot is near impossible.

Urugrel

Image
To the other city-states, Urugrel is known primarily as the mining city. Its nearness to the Mountainous Divide has certainly helped the city acquire a surplus of stone to export. Urugrel is solely responsible for digging the railway tunnel through the Mountainous Divide, and for their contributions, Crostrunn and Durmara have agreed to pay them a portion of their trades as thanks. Urugrel is also heavily focused on farming. For some reason, many great authors have come out of Urugrel. Because of this a literature museum has been in construction for years, but some mysterious group's sabotage has halted the progress constantly.

The Mirrored Land

"I've seen it.  Across the water.  A land that mirrors our own"

Crostrunn

Image
The Station city is at the center of the Greater Planes Area. It holds the main railway station with access to five of the other six city-states, and it acts as the central hub for trade and culture. It is however entirely reliant on the trade assistance of the other city-states, as it lacks access to some basic resources such as lumber, water, and fish. The Station City also has some of the highest crime rates with smuggling rings running rampant. Recently some groups have begun stealing and hoarding ancient magical artifacts in attempts to save some power for themselves once the magical influence finally fizzles out. Crostrunn Station At the center of Crostrunn is a massive railway station, for which the city is given its name.  From the station, there are four main railways which depart in each of the four cardinal directions.  The East railway splits to the red rail toward Durmara, and the indigo rail toward Urugrel.  The West railway splits into the g...

Sellenity

Image
Conveniently named, one of Sellenity's biggest exports is salt, coming second only to lumber. This city state has the greatest cultural divide within itself, with the North and South halves of the city pitted against one another. The North tends to be oriented more toward preservation of Sellenity with no interference from other city-states. The South half prides itself on its acceptance of Tseth culture which has recently been on the rise, and the Southerners preach on the importance of uniting with all outside influences. The one thing either side agrees on is their disdain for the sea dwelling Kurramm shark people who have begun to make their way into the city's underground. Sellenity is an awful place.  Pretty, but awful.

The Varren Collective

Image
A series of six smaller cities, the Varren Collective is the most recent to declare itself a city state after uniting its smaller parts under trade contracts and the agreement that each smaller section accept and celebrate the culture of its neighbors. Its name is based from the two southernmost sections Vare and Yehna which hold the most political influence over the other sections. Even now though, the other city-states have doubts about the collective's ability to govern itself.

The City of Hopeful Green

Image
"We are Hopeful here... We are learning" A mouthful, this city-state is known to outsiders simply as "Green City", but eccentric locals refer to it as "Hopeful". Despite its proximity to the Floral Forest, Green City's lumber export is next to nothing, as the residents have turned away from manual labor and have become heavily focused on training their minds and preserving magic so that they may be granted access to The Library which stands to the West of the city. The Library is the only remaining place in Levianara with access to pure magical knowledge. The Librarians , the two giant ravens who reside at the top of the structure, have restricted access to all humans, fearing they will lose anything that they borrow.

Durmara

Image
"I find that here in Durmara, the people are much like the sun.  They bring such life and bright, happy times.  They bring me my inspiration."  --Sarrem Drylhas, Durmari artist This desert city has the heaviest influence from the Tseth nomads and their culture. Durmara is home to the most active Tseth temples on the whole continent. Even human inhabitants of the city have a tendency to follow some aspects of Tseth religion, which is especially evident in Durmari art which tends to focus its subjects on the sun and the colors yellow and red. The city's territory expands off the mainland to the island of Hulla, which houses some of the richest residents of Durmara, as well as some of the poorest. Durmara still has yet to build proper ports, and so they rely primarily on trade via railway. History Durmara is the second oldest city-state of Levianara, it is located at the north of the Eastern Desert. The city-state consists of mainland Durmara and its island ter...

Kavros

Image
Built on the edge of a cliff, Kavros is the most technologically innovative city-state. The thick woods of the High Forest have prevented easy railway access, and Sellenity has restricted access through their ports with bribery being the best ticket through. Despite this, Kavros has advanced their technology in ways unknown to the other territories. Their ports are accessed through a series of cranes and elevators alongside the cliff face. There are also rumors that the city has dug down and now extends to the ground beneath the cliff. History Kavros is the third oldest city-state.  Originally, it had no contact with other areas of Levianara because of the High Forest and steep cliff faces on either side.  Because of its isolation, Kavros has also been free of the conflict of the other territories.   The Underside What began as a drilling project for easier access to fresh water ended up contributing more to the city of Kavros than originally intended...

The Durmari Alphabet

Image
The Durmari alphabet is shared between Durmara and the Tseth nomads.  Developed within Durmara, it spread to the Tseth so that the nomadic cities could easier communicate.  This alphabet is used both in the Durmari and Tseth language, though the alphabet is shared, many words still differ.  The two groups have worked a way around this, by using single letters to signify basic communicative needs between the two.

Tseth Religion

Image
The Tseth religion primarily follows the sun.  In fact, Tseth means "sun" in their ancient language.  The Tseth worship the sun for giving light and watching over them constantly.  They also believe exposure to the sun imbues both knowledge and beauty.   The idea that the sun gives knowledge traces back to before the Tseth had access to other forms of light.  The sun was the only light by which they could read their informative texts, and thus the sun allowed them to gain knowledge. The sun is said to give beauty , as not only does it allow for one to be seen in good light, but the extreme heat from the sun in the Eastern Desert causes those exposed to it for long periods to sweat.  The Tseth see sweat as a person glistening much like a precious gem. Tseth art is primarily religious, and is known to focus on depicting the sun.  The color Yellow is used heavily along with the color red.  Yellow depicting the sun, with red depicting life...

The Tseth

Image
The Tseth  are also called the Sun People.  They originate from the Eastern Desert, with their nomadic cities found most often along the Eastern River.

Levianara Map

Image
Levianara is a lone continent in the middle of the sea, there was once magic here and wars between the five original city-states, but for some unknown reason, magic has been fading. Fearing what would happen when magic finally dies, the city-states formed a treaty, and since then two other territories have developed.  The current seven major city-states of Levianara are labeled as the seven main colors of the rainbow from red to violet, they are: Durmara - This desert city has the heaviest influence from the Tseth nomads and their culture. Durmara is home to the most active Tseth temples on the whole continent. Even human inhabitants of the city have a tendency to follow some aspects of Tseth religion, which is especially evident in Durmari art which tends to focus its subjects on the sun and the colors yellow and red.
